With very free draining alluvial gravels, the Gimblett Vineyard soil type is the lowest vigour, lowest nutrient soil in Hawkes Bay, restricting vine vigour and resulting in small crops of intensely flavoured fruit. This vineyard typically produces dark fruited, firmly structured wines that complement the Redstone Vineyard, bringing a more brooding undertone to the nose and enhancing drive and definition on the palate.  Situated on the warm soils of the renowned Bridge Pa Triangle Winegrowing District, our Redstone Vineyard is only a three-minute drive from the Gimblett Vineyard, but produces a distinctively different wine. The soils here are known as red metals, and typically produce ripe, supple and aromatic wines, bringing flesh and perfume to a blend.

TASTING NOTES

AROMAS
A complex, dense wine with a core of dark berry fruit and plum, lifted by top notes of rosewood, cedar, lavender and vanilla. Beneath this is a savoury, dark, earthy complexity. A thread of graphite and iron brings a more serious, brooding undertone to the wine.
BODY
On the palate the wine is full-bodied yet focused. The weight of the fruit is balanced by gentle acidity and a long, firm tannin structure.
CELLARING
A wine of restrained power and great depth which will reward long-term cellaring until 2030.
